At the age of 13, Chase was told he needed a liver transplant. His childhood had been a whirlwind of medical procedures and treatments and today he continues to struggle with the genetic disorder that affects his liver. Throughout all of this, Chase was still able to cultivate a passion for music which has helped him cope with the realities of his treatments.
Chase began playing piano when he was eight years old and two years later developed a love for the saxophone. When Chase was ready to declare his wish, a custom Selmer Saxophone was at the top of his list! He wanted an instrument that would fuel his ambition to be a professional musician someday.
On the morning of his wish, Chase and his family traveled to Chicago to tour a Selmer factory, where they were greeted by the professional jazz musician, Mark Colby. Mark helped Chase find the perfect fit before treating the family to a private concert.
When asked why he chose a saxophone for his wish, Chase explained the joy it brings him: “You can’t really be sad when you’re playing music,” Chase said. “It really lifts you up.”
